When I say the Step 7 prayer I call to mind what I know of evolutionary theory, the unknowable beauty of the universe’s inception, the slow dawning of our planet, the birth of chemistry and biology, the mysterious forces that either drive, facilitate or allow this process, the emergence of cellular life, its crescendo over millions of years to self-conscious life – life that is capable of contemplating its own creation.
