There is a time and a place to stand beside one’s comrades and fall, entwined in their arms, to be sung of in posterity. That time and place, in my opinion, is in Mantis ballads from five hundred years ago. The real world is too precious to be cast aside for imponderables like honour and glory.
Then again, there are few others in the world with the emotional resilience of Doctor Phinagler, a resilience that often far outlasts the ability of others to be resilient towards him.
