I could do that indefinitely: roam the streets, look up into windows and imagine myself into other people’s lives.

The city was empowering. Even if a woman doesn’t have anything, the movies seemed to say, at least there is the city. The city was posited as the ultimate consolation.
And, I couldn’t help it. My heart barked confusedly with love.
