They won’t tell you fairy tales of how girls can be dangerous and still win.
I guess to them it’s a terrifying thought, a red riding hood who knew exactly what she was doing when she invited the wild in. ~ Nikita Gill ~
His eyes lit up with his characteristic taunting style, intermingled with fury. But with Gus, his rage never presented like passion. There was nothing inflamed behind it, only a detached, steely wrath that came from nowhere. Somehow, he’d always felt more dangerous because of it.
Even without the wings, I wouldn’t have mistaken him for human. He wasn’t like Hunter, all smooth planes and perfect angles. Where Hunter’s looks reassured and drew you in—Frazer’s beauty did the opposite. It was close to terrifying. A cold mask, hard-edged and hollow cheeked. Nightmare made flesh. Another bat. And yet … The way his shoulder-length black hair lined the sides of his face, it made me think he used it like I had when my hair had been long: to hide, to become a shadow in the corner of the room.
With a sharp jolt to my midriff, the rest of his features clicked into place. He might’ve been my male fae counterpart, even though his expression made him seem like a haunted man.
Your ribs are bruised, so when the pain gets too much, turn back.” “What’s too much?” “After you’ve vomited and before you’ve passed out.”
“You sound like you’re dying.” Adrianna held out a hand. “I think I am.”
That hollowed me out. “Go fuck yourself, Wilder.”
What was happening to me? He was still staring. I could back down, apologize. But my damned pride got in the way. It kept my spine stiff, unyielding. So I let a shrug roll over my shoulders. Oh, so casual. “You threatened me first.” He replied with a soft, reluctant laugh. “You really are a perfect little savage.”
Frazer made an amused chuffing noise somewhere between a growl, a cough and a sneeze. My eyes found his. I felt a jolt around my midriff and a tug. Instantly, I felt exposed and unsettled but also clear. Like I’d sailed through darkness and weathered countless storms only to see a guiding light from the cliffs. Except, my light came in the guise of a haughty brow and a deadpan stare.
Don’t look at me like that. I can’t help it if I find your drama amusing.
What the rutting rats is going on? Am I really hearing his thoughts?
“Nimän telo, Tästien Valo.”
Dimitri angled his head. A sneer playing around his mouth, he said, “As you well know, whatever you did would be nothing compared to how Goldwyn acted before Cecile, or the amount of recruits Mikael goes through.” Wow. Interesting. “It seems that I am the only one with any propriety left,” Dimitri sniffed. Auntie cackled. Pfft! He just can’t find any poor, innocent soul willing to let him stick it where he wants.
Frazer barked a laugh. “Don’t worry. I haven’t developed romantic feelings for you. I’m aware your heart belongs to Wilder, or at least your lusty loins do.”
“He is far from you. His heart and soul are dying. Shrouded in dark. You are the eye, the center, while he is the storm that rages.”
I wished she’d shut up. My head was pounding, and it felt like Salazar was trying to give my ass a hug. All too much. Too absurd.
All the while, I clutched the only weapon that might work against a stone sprite—two sticks with bits of metal stuck on the end.
I didn’t think. “OI! YOU UGLY PILE OF SHIT! IF YOU TOUCH HER, I SWEAR BY THE DARK COURTS, THE LIGHT COURTS, AND EVERY GOD THAT EVER LIVED, I WILL SMASH YOU INTO A THOUSAND PIECES!”
Jace howled, his side collapsing, his knees buckling. And I pressed that wicked steel to his neck. It seemed to gleam and sing, I’m light and quick just like you. If they blunt my fire, I’ll burn with ice instead.
