They value the experience of it and consider gambling a hobby like any other—golfing, going to the movies, whatever. The money lost at the gambling tables is like the price of admission—no big deal. They know this at the outset and enjoy the exhilaration that comes with throwing their hats into the ring for a big payoff.
People become less careful when they have more resources, which only ensures that they will soon part ways with those resources.
