“Don’t question my character. I saved you because you would have died if I hadn’t.
He’d rather be honestly hated than dishonestly tolerated,
One raven who would ignore her no longer. Because there was winning a trial, and winning a heart.
“You’ve turned the raven into a fairy-tale prince because of a few stolen hours together, and I’m worried that in the end, the truth will only disappoint you.”
“Today is the day our adventure begins, the one we’ve waited so long for, the one we’ve yearned for.
whatever had happened between them in that cave would become real—not a secret in the dark, but something tangible in the light, and he couldn’t let that happen.
She wanted more from him. She needed more from him.
For the sake of her happiness, Rafe had to be nothing. For the sake of her mate, she had to bury him away.
“Leave your worries to your waking hours, Kasiandra. They will always be there, waiting. Dreams, especially your dreams, are made for so much more.”
The endless blue sky had always called to her. And her soul still ached to respond.
But dreams had a bothersome way of ignoring the truth, and hope made the impossible seem within reach.
“Frightened gossip has the power to bring a kingdom to its knees,”
A yearning in my gut, a beating of my heart, a sense that my destiny is bigger than what’s expected of me.
I haven’t found it yet, but I found you, and maybe we were supposed to figure out the rest together.”
You don’t need me anymore. You have a mate and a kingdom, and I’m just a liability.”
Because it couldn’t be true. There was no way. Rafe loved him. Rafe was loyal. Rafe would never betray him like that, never, not with the past they shared.
“my life isn’t important. Not the way yours is. Not the way Xander’s is.” She looked away and back at him before she said, “Your life is important to me.”
But standing there, watching her, for the first time Rafe understood his magic was a gift. Because his magic had saved her. His magic had created this moment. And she, and this, were magnificent.
She had the sense that she was exactly where she was supposed to be—a wonderfully foreign yet comforting feeling.
Ten days was all she had left to be herself. To be Ana. A girl of magic and wonder—the girl she was with Rafe.
That feeling of freedom, of not having to hide, of being woven so closely nothing could ever undo them, that was love.
“Love is when you find a piece of yourself in someone else, a piece you never knew was missing, but without which you'd be broken. You feel whole, and complete, and accepted for exactly who you are. You can be your true self, because around this person, for the first time you have no desire to pretend to be anyone else.”
love is giving a piece of yourself to someone else and trusting them not to break it,
Let’s pretend I’m a dove with no name and no title, and you’re a raven with no past. Let’s pretend we have one last night to do whatever we want before the sun rises and the world comes crashing in.”
Rafe had his answer—love was worth any cost. Even when it was a brief star shooting across the night sky, gone before he could even hold it for a moment. It was worth it.
If the cost of freedom was his life, she would spend the rest of hers in a cage.
To be a bird without wings was a fate almost worse than death.
“You are a weapon. My weapon. To be wielded any way I choose.”
But only on the day when the sky does fall, Will be revealed the one who will save you all.
