Designers, like radiologists, pride themselves on attention to detail: they obsess over typographic elements like line kerning and spacing; they spend hours debating between nearly identical colors; they notice immediately when an object is a few pixels off center. Of course they do; those are the sorts of things they’ve been trained to notice. They’d be laughed out of design school and off the internet otherwise. But if they’ve never been asked to notice how their work might fail people—or been made rudely aware of the problem after it has—they’re just as blind as the rest of us.
