"It's so great to see you!" Milo kissed Rav's cheek in little pecks as Jack licked Rav's ear. "How long are you here for? Where are you staying?" Milo’s gaze dropped to Rav's throat, where a rose peeked out from under his T-shirt. "Oh! I remember your pictures. Tattoos. That's what they're called. How many tattoos do you have? Ooh, look at your arms! Wow!" Milo began running eager fingers down the image of St. Michael.
There were times in life when the path before you was so clear, that engaging in planning was little more than verification of what you already knew in your bones. Rav hadn't had this much clarity, this much gut-rightness, since the day he'd walked out of Everson Enterprises for good.
"I came because… I know what it's like to love someone and lose them, and end up in a bad place because… because you were not good enough. I know what it's like to be one of a whole bunch of dogs in a cage, to think no one will ever come for you. To know something bad is going to happen and not to be able to get free. To see others taken away to die and not be able to do anything to help them. "You wanted to talk to me?" Milo walked over to Sammy's chair and sat on the arm. He placed his palms on either side of Sammy's neck and peered down at him with a serious expression. He moved his hands to Sammy's head, then his shoulders. His hands were so warm! "You're not too upset."
