And when I start to feel like the new kid in school again, worrying that I’m not as experienced as the other actors, there’s Sterling calling out of the blue with encouragement. “Sister,” he always says. “Brother,” I always answer. “You’re killing the game.” “Stop!” “Do you know I love you, Chrissy Metz?” “What?” “I just love you.” “Oh Sterling, you don’t know how much I needed to hear that.”
You can get in your head and totally allow that voice to ruin a good thing. That voice in your head is not real. Feelings are not facts.
As she retrained her brain, I was again reminded about the importance of not taking things for granted. The very things that I speak gratitude to in the morning—being able to get out of bed and being able to talk with loved ones—those are the signs of life I cheered for in my mom.
Remember, setting boundaries isn’t about being a diva, it’s about self-care.
Every time a situation arises where you are not sure what to do, I want you to resist that urge to put someone else first.
Being honest with yourself is the priority—you can’t control how another person will react.
