She sighs. “Madi, I’m not leaving you. I know our friendship moved fast, but… I’ve never had any friends before, and I’m a little…” Her face turns red before she looks back to me. “Lonely. So I’m not leaving you out here—alone.”
“Run, Madi. Run and don’t ever come back, because regardless of what Bishop feels about you?” She searches my eyes. “It means nothing. It meant nothing when it came to Khales, either.”
“Felt,” I whisper, my tears now dry. “They used me as their puppet. Now I’m broken.”
“That’s it.” He shakes his head, whispering under his breath, “I’m locking you in the basement until this shit is sorted.”
Saltare cum morte solutio ligatorum inventae sunt in verbis conectuntur et sculptilia contrivisset in sanguine et medullis.
“But,” I add, stepping forward, “you never put me back together properly. You steal parts of me, so when you do put me back, I’m all crooked, cracked, and still visibly broken.”
“Because being broken is how you’re going to survive this life, Madison.”
“She’s been a missing person case since. No one has heard from her and no one knows where she is.”
“Why?” I ask, needing to know more information. “Why do you know the most? Why do I feel a connection to you I’ve never felt before? Why is it that I trust you even though I trust barely anyone?” He looks at me. “You are my sister. I’m your twin.”
“I’m so fucking angry at you, Kitty. I don’t know whether I should fuck you or kill you or both,”
“he’s finally claimed me.”
“He claimed you that first day you walked into Riverside, Kitty. You’re gonna have to give me more than that.”
“Promise?” I ask, looking into his eyes. Nate nods. “I promise.”
That’s when it hits me. I’m dying.
“I know you can, Mads. But I can’t. I just can’t. I have to go. I love you.”
As I lean back, Nate scolds me. “Do that shit again and I’ll fucking kill you myself.”
I grin a little. “I’m a bit of a badass. I’ve been shot!”
“Don’t fuck with me, Madison. You’re mine.”
“Because the terrors happen at the same time every night.”
“It’s not that, Madison. He wasn’t fit to be a King, so he had to be a Lost Boy.”
