Though we need a WAY cooler name, Keefe jumped in. How about Team Foster-Keefe and the Wonderboy?
“And Fitz is your boyfriend?” Sophie nearly toppled off the bed. “No! Why would you think that?” “Because you get all dreamy-eyed when you talk about him.” “I do not!” “You’re doing it right now!”
In every photo her face looked scrunched with concentration, like she was trying to make sense of the world.
Or maybe she’d been pooping. With babies, it was hard to tell.
Sophie wasn’t.
Sophie reluctantly agreed.
Tam snorted. “Pretty sure the last thing he wants is an Empath holding on to him when he goes anywhere near Sophie’s hand.”
Keefe grinned. “Typical Foster, always knocking guys off their feet.” Sophie sighed. “Should I—” “Don’t let go,” Dex told her, tightening his grip. “I’m fine. It’s just . . . intense.” Keefe and Tam both snickered.
“Plus, y’know, Foster can’t live without me,” Keefe added. “Don’t make me smack you,” Sophie warned. Keefe smirked. “I’d like to see you try.” “So would I,” Tam informed them.
But thankfully, this time Fitz’s shouts were saved entirely for Mr. Forkle.
Dear Ms. Messenger,
If you based this character of yoursef, I sure as hell hope I never meet you. This part is just more proof of how selfish Sophie truly is. Keefe must be blind not to see it.
Sincerely,
Me
twisted her flawless features into something red and puffy.
Sophie scowled. Sandor coughed. Grady shrugged.
round cheeks
This should be obvious by now. Think, out of all of Sophie's friends, who is known for his round face? And who's brother happens to be a Phaser?
“The title is yours. We’ll see if you lose more blood before this day is over.”
The air was somehow both disgustingly sour and cloyingly sweet, like curdled milk stirred with extra-sugary frosting. And it felt thicker, like Sophie could chew her breath—which was not a pleasant sensation.
But . . . she was so close to getting her parents back.
She’d fought so long, so hard to keep control—to keep perspective—to resist falling into the Neverseen’s schemes.
No, Sophie, you did not fight. You are weak, selfish, and would give up the rest of the world to save someone important to you. I don't know why Keefe likes you. You don't deserve him. At least he's brave, and has his priorities straight, which, to be honest, is more than what we can say for you.
