If the Enemy is at your table, then you feel like you’re not good enough for God.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
Yet the cross of Jesus disrupts that faulty storyline with the greatest display of worth you will ever receive. You are not invisible. You are seen and treasured by the God of the universe.
If the Enemy is at your table, then you think everyone is out to get you.
Why would we turn the other cheek? Because we are sitting at the table with the Creator of the world. Even if “everyone” is against us (and they are usually not), Christ’s table provides all we need to make it through this season of life, thriving right in their line of sight.
God wants us to focus less on who it is that’s surrounding us and focus more on the fact that he is sitting with us. His presence at our table is greater than the presence of any enemy that surrounds us. God’s got your back.
Pray and Proceed
Yes, our giants can fall. In fact, our giants must fall—which
It’s a mandate. God’s plan for our lives far exceeds the circumstances of our days. Our giants have already fallen, because Jesus has made them fall. That’s why they must also fall today.
It’s imperative that we live in the finished work that Jesus has done for us.
God wants us to live free from the demoralizing voice of that giant, and because God wants to get glory in our lives by showing the world that he is greater than everything we face in our lives, then that giant’s got to go down.
Jesus defeated our giants with one fatal blow on the cross. He destroyed their power as he blasted out of the grip of death. The way we walk in that freedom is by believing each day that he will lead us as we put one foot in front of the other. Most times in our lives the power is not in a massive leap but in the succession of a thousand tiny steps.
“Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh”
Yes, the battle is won, but we are still in a fight. Yes, we’re resting in the work of God, but we must go forward and overcome our complacency. And it’s not just for our sake either. I mean, come on, we’re living on a planet with billions of people who’ve never heard of Jesus. This world is rattling at the hinges right now. Any day this whole thing could just go up in smoke. But we have the answer: Jesus Christ. There’s work to be done. There isn’t time to be complacent. We know hope. We have the truth. We have the life. We have the way. We have Jesus.
We don’t come to believe in God’s love for us because of the circumstances around us. We are assured of his love for us because of the circumstance of Christ on the cross. We remind ourselves that the pinnacle and depth and breadth of all chaos was thrown at Jesus.
God is with us, so we lack nothing. He guides us in good directions. He heals us and restores us. He shows us the path that’s far away from harmful living. Our freedom and his fame are closely intertwined. God comforts us. Ultimately, all is safe—even if we’re walking through a dark valley. We are surrounded in his goodness and mercy all the days of our lives. Ultimately, we’ll dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Our freedom and God’s glory are inextricably woven together. Jesus gave his life on a cross to set us free. He also gave his life on a cross to glorify God.
Our lives’ central aim is to enjoy this great God and to glorify him forever.
God does not exist for us; we exist for God. We are not his maker, he is our Maker. Our lives’ central aim is to enjoy this great God and to glorify him forever.
