You want to step outside, mate?” Lazarus folded his arms. “Not really, no.” “That wasn’t a question.” Lazarus wore a faint, nasty smile. “You know, Roy suggested you might give me a hand. But if you can’t spare one—”
“It’s been a long winter, and it’s not over yet. Would you care for a walk later?” “A walk?” “It’s a thing with legs one does in the country,” Nathaniel explained,
“I’m not being kind,” Nathaniel said. “You were right. You’re a lying fraud, your work is filthy and dishonest, and I don’t want to acknowledge that because I’d rather it were not true. I don’t think I am, as you put it, fucking a bad man. But I’m fucking a man who does bad things, and…the distinction is academic.”
“I took that picture off their mother for the sake of a guinea,” Justin said. “That was all she had, and I took it from her.” Nathaniel’s grip tightened. “I know.” “I’m not talking about making amends.” Justin focused fiercely on his beer. “I’m not apologising.
