Maggie May was the definition of annoying. That was the truth, too. I looked up her name in the dictionary once and the meaning was: ‘Calvin’s annoying stepsister.’ I might’ve added the definition myself and gotten yelled at by my mom for writing in a book, but still, it was true.
I’d do anything to bring her beautiful ugly smiles back to the world.
and in that moment, I missed it. I missed the one thing that had annoyed me for so long. I missed her voice.
In that moment, I knew she had been right about everything all along. She was right about me, and her, and us. She’d be the one girl I’d love until forever. No matter how life tried to change us.
“You love her?” she whispered, a few tears falling from her eyes. My thumbs wiped away the evidence of her sadness, but only seconds later more showed up. “I tried not to. I wanted this to work. I wanted us to work.”
What a lovely thing to say regarding the ‘love of your life’…
“Yeah. Without Brooks we’re literally just The Coo. And who the fuck wants to listen to The Coo?” Oliver said.
