Body set weight is tightly regulated. Most people’s weight remains relatively stable. Even people who gain weight tend to do so extremely gradually—1 to 2 pounds per year. This does not mean, however, that body set weight is unchanging. Over time, there is a gradual upward resetting of the body’s weight thermostat.
