I repaid his kindness by stealing from him. I wanted geeze money for me and AK, so I figured I’d sell dog food and pocket the twenty bucks. About fifteen years later, when I called him to confess that I had stolen, to apologize and pay him back, he said, “Oh Michael, I never would have expected that, you were such a nice boy, I’m so pleased that you contacted me.” We went on to have a good chat reminiscing, no anger from him or display of disappointment, just forgiveness and appreciation.
