He was eager to learn about his dad’s personality. That’s what exposed who a person was—not their achievements. Someone could save lives, but for the wrong reasons. Someone could destroy a kingdom, but for the right ones. A hero could be a bad person, and a villain could be a good person. It was all a matter of perspective: the world was never so black and white.
Bryson looked at her as if she was crazy. “Are you implying Debo is a Bozani?” She laughed. “No, I’m implying one of two options. One, he is secretly the first-born of King Supido and therefore possesses a Branian of his own—one who created the light that guarded his sword.” “Well, that’s not believable at all,” Bryson said. “Two, he is one of the rare exceptions I spoke of. Based off the stories from the Of Five series, there have been five non-Bozani in history who have been able to tap into their Tahara … even though it’s not explained that way in the books. Maybe he is the sixth, and he

The man was from the Archaic Kingdom and, from what he told me, had been traveling a lot lately. He’s done a lot of bad things—as in murder—but he says it’s for a greater good, which I agree with. Although, we may have thought differently about what that greater good was. Whenever you lay someone to eternal rest, you are doing them a favor. Needless to say, I took a liking to the man … Then I figured out what his goal was.
“Clearly, Toono wants someone alive again. The question was, who? Why, Dev King Rehn, of course. Storshae said that his father would be returning after he strangled Itta, and after what King Vitio has told us, we know that Toono and Storshae are working together. Toono is helping him resurrect King Rehn … and, somehow, Olivia is the key to it all.”
The feeling drifted into his bones. At first they ached, then they cracked under the pressure. His ankles snapped first, bringing him to his knees as the joints all over his body were dislocating.
Wait-did Rhyparia cause the restaurant to fall by her “switch” going off? It would make sense based on how she had acted earlier. (old)
Gravity, and the restaurant incident was triggered by someone else. (new)
Toono sheathed his knife back in his pocket and sat down in an armchair. He took out a gem and held it up. Twirling the gem between his fingers, he frowned as it remained lifeless. He started to get up, but the gem’s sudden glow made him return to his seat. His mission in this kingdom was finally over.
The gems are such a cool idea, though not explained in this book. Once sacrifices from each kingdom on both sides of an island are made, it is lit up. When all five arre done, one can be brought back to life.
“Messy blond hair. Long bangs. Blue eyes. Strange scar on his chest that read ‘T2.’” Toono’s eyes widened. “What was his name?” Storshae let out a single forced laugh. “I didn’t catch it. But Fonos said he was Mendac’s son.” His mind spinning, Toono went silent for a moment.
“But let’s say Mendac was a very bad man, which—let’s face it—is not improbable, then that would imply you’ve been lied to about him your whole entire life; your dad, who is revered around the realm, was a psychopath. Would you rather hear that? That Debonicus was right to kill your father? Maybe you would; I don’t know.”
