On the first page, first paragraph, second sentence, we meet the villain of five books. Toono is one amazing villain.
The light wasn’t ordinary. There was no source. No candles. It simply existed on its own. The light didn’t wane the farther out it stretched either. It stopped abruptly, as if there was an invisible wall holding it in.
The only thing he knew is that he would jump off one of the kingdom’s cliffs for her heart. Below would be a vast meadow of all the different flowery scents, exactly like the perfumes that were hitting his nose as he stood a hair’s-breadth away from Lilu.
The room went silent, for nobody wanted to give the obvious answer to the silly question—except perhaps for Jilly, whose face was contorted with concentration as she counted her fingers. Math was obviously not her strong point. Honestly, when it came to her mind, there probably weren’t many strong points, but Bryson gave her the benefit of the doubt. It took a while, but eventually realization dawned on her face. She raised her hand violently and started making huffing noises in order to be recognized. I’m not sure if I should feel bad for her or laugh. Maybe both. (old)
Though Jilly is not the smartest, she is so enjoyable and amazingly happy. (new)
Debo was standing face-to-face with her, the shadow of his towering frame engulfing her. He had gone from where he was pacing, some twenty feet away, to directly in front of her in a split-second. Bryson smirked, then realized his hand was empty. It was curved as if it was still holding a cup. He looked back at Debo and, sure enough, he now had Bryson’s glass of lemonade. Not only had Debo gone from point A to point B within in the blink of an eye, he’d also taken a detour to a third point.
The beautiful young woman stopped for a moment and looked at him with compassionate eyes. “Mendac was a great and powerful man from what we’ve all heard growing up. I believe his energy was strong enough for him to be reborn. So yes, I think he is up there right now, happy and care free as a Bozani.”
“We all have our faults,” Jilly said as they walked into the garden. “And some of us have too many.” They took a seat on a small wooden bench. It was a lot quieter here. “We all have too many,” Jilly said. “Some of us just don’t hide them well.”
Jilly can be crazy and weird, yet is also wise. An amazing way of showing how important she is to the Jestivan. And still lovable.
