what would they have to speculate over you almost getting your purse stolen? yeah, it'd be in the news and MAYBE they'd want to ask questions, but you could refuse and just leave it at that. actually, this would work to your advantage. no juicy story = no extensive media coverage. the only thing would be when they see it's Ethan who helped.
tl;dr you don't know how the media works, Ms. Murphy.
Because I know what happened. I was there. I lived it. I don’t need to hear all the dirty details. I’m an integral part of those dirty details. The only thing I’m curious about is…her. What makes her tick, what moves her. Does she ever laugh, or is she serious and sad all the time? What

is not
how an interrogation
WORKS!!!
i'm not an expert but i've watched enough true crime shows to know that any good detective wouldn't go in for the kill immediately, especially when it's a fucking teenager being questioned. he'd be questioned for hours and giving his statement and they'd see if it matched up to what evidence is there, not to mention THE VICTIM CAN VOUCH FOR HIM!!!
this is not how detectives work and think, i don't fucking care how bad of a reputation his family has. this is just a cliche ploy to hammer into the readers heads that Ethan's life is so terrible and horrible and awful with ZERO subtlety and nuance at all.
JESUS.
