Let’s step back for a moment. In this book I am picking out a few topographical features of modern culture, and suggesting that we see them as part of a larger landscape. Like trees in the foreground, we have various polemics about our novel digital landscape; the larger forest consists of a set of assumptions about how our minds work that we have inherited from the Enlightenment.
