You know as much as I like the books & the author, this game of cat & mouse is getting a little old & and little silly. He could have gone to Carl, he could have gone to Rose or even just the girl Tilde, If he trusts them kinda, he should have just bit the bullet & gone to someone & told them everything, he could have just written a better note even!
