Important note! This is fascinating - essentially it is saying that spiritual movements like Confucianism and Taoism that rejected entirely the "profit motive" as the guiding force for human decision-making, even if it led to less violent ends, were developed in direct rebuttal to the profit motive - i.e., its mirror image.
