Something Like Lightning

A person who is racist is invariably ignorant, but a person who is ignorant is not always racist.

“I don’t want some guy I have to impress or one who feels like he needs to show off. I just want someone who loves me that I can love back.

“I don’t really care about honesty,” Jason continued, “or being totally understood or any of the other stuff, because being human is all about messing up and breaking trust and telling lies. I wouldn’t want to be with someone perfect. Just some humble, totally normal guy will do.”

“You’re not crazy. Most people who suspect infidelity are picking up on signals without even realizing it. Unfortunately this makes it easy to second-guess ourselves, when we should be listening to our instincts. That having been said, people who have been cheated on previously tend to expect it to happen again, which can lead to a lot of unjustified suspicion.”

Not being able to have what you want hurts, but I promise you, getting what you want and losing it hurts more.”

“Love is vicious,” Nathaniel said. “Relationships and all the expectations that come with them—people are only setting themselves up to fail. What I told you that night still stands. You don’t need anyone. You might want someone, but at the end of the day, only you are responsible for your own happiness.
