“That’s the problem with black men; y’all think a working dick and a paycheck means you’re a good man.
Lisara St. Thomas was a firm believer of no one being too old for a good ass whupping.
“Not Teyaira Junior!”
I didn’t know if it was the fact that we were married or what, but a nigga had a need to take care of her, keep her safe, happy, and untouched.
Wasn’t no woman that was my wife was gon’ be struggling or needing shit—nah, not while I’m her husband.
“Khari and Bashar are always too busy. Cemone and Shakur are never in town, and Lequay be wanting me to babysit his bad ass sons in exchange for him picking me up.” We all burst into laughter at the last one. “Why? He ain’t even got no job,” Unique asked, causing Banks and I to crack up. “No idea. And Asif, I just didn’t want him to. My classmates got a crush on him and be fanned out when he pull up. I don’t get it because he’s an old man.”
“I love you, KK,” I said the shit before my brain could even catch up. My heart had clearly taken over.
“I promise once I’m rich, I will buy you something real pricey.” “Nah.” He brought me in closer to him as we relaxed on the big couch. “I got some priceless shit already, love. All I’m doing is nurturing it.”
Every day I find a new reason why I love you, real shit. Soon as I met you I think I started saving everything up for you: my heart, my time, my loyalty, my dedication, my last name. I don’t think I ever wanted you as a girlfriend. I always wanted to make you my wife. My only regret was not getting in yo’ business earlier and finding out I could’ve been had you. But God makes shit happen a certain way for a reason, love, and a nigga is just beyond blessed and grateful that He found me worthy enough to exist in the same lifetime as you, baby.
“Bashar booked a cabin for everybody, and I think that’ll be good to get ya mind off shit.” Hugging his ripped torso, I replied, “That sounds fun. The girls too, right?” Frowning and making me laugh, Unique replied, “Hell yeah. Fuck you think I’m inviting you up there for, a gang bang?” I broke out into laughter. “No, but I was just making sure.”
He and his brothers had something against women carrying bags, taking out trash, opening doors, or doing anything they felt a man was supposed to do.
“What the fuck is going on?” Unique bellowed as his brothers looked on, brows furrowed and confused. Only a few began to register things when they saw their wives hugging me and patting my flat stomach. “She’s pregnant, nigga. You sure you ready?” Prime asked, causing the room to laugh.
