The whole series is building Holden to being the kind of guy we needed him to be at the end of book nine. Impulsive and thoughtful, certain of himself and humbled by the universe. Fred Johnson’s capturing a lot about him in a funny moment. Everyone laughs here. And it is supposed to be emblematic of who and what this guy is. Heroes who don’t have character flaws are a lot less interesting.
