“We’re just getting started. Wife.”
He was more stunning than any sunrise. And he was mine.
She sat beside me, frowning as she took in my face and neck. “You’re already getting bruises.” Damn. Ransom was going to lose his mind. “Ransom is not going to handle this well.”
knew he was busy, hunting that deadly pack. But I wanted him here. I wanted to curl into his arms and feel his warmth. I needed to tell someone about the man’s ramblings, and I wanted that someone to be Ransom.
His hair was windswept like he’d ridden hard for hours. His face was stone, his eyes liquid metal. The rage he kept so under control was unleashed, radiating off his frame. “Calm down, Ransom,” Luella said. “She was almost killed today.”
I curled into that scent, pressing my nose into his chest as he wrapped me in his arms. One hand splayed over my lower back. The other dove into my hair as he breathed me in. “I should have been here.” “I’m okay,” I murmured. Now that he was here, I was okay.
“I’ve got you,” Ransom murmured. “I won’t let go.” He didn’t.
“Mine.” “Yours,”
“You are not fucking dying, Ransom Wolfe.” “Hey.” He hauled me into his arms, holding me close as I fisted the back of his shirt. “Please don’t leave me,” I whispered.
On my exhale, I felt him. As I felt the wind. As I felt my own heartbeat. Ransom’s arms wrapped around me, pulling me against his chest.
“Say you’ll find me again.”
“Then you have to come back to me. Or I’ll hate you forever.” “You already hate me.” “Yes, I do.”
“No.” Ransom’s fingers opened and closed on his sword as he adjusted his grip. He wouldn’t be able to use it against Ramsey, but the warning was clear. Blood oath or not, he’d sure as hell try. “She stays.”
“I will kill you. I swear it.” Ramsey’s nostrils flared. “I see the way you look at her.” “She is my life,” Ransom said.
He should have been fighting that monster, not running with me, but he wouldn’t leave my side. Not until I was out of this courtyard.
“I love you.” “Yes, you do. Don’t forget.” “Never.” “Neither will I.” His throat bobbed as he swallowed. “I will find you. Here, or in the shades.”
“Yes, sir.” He nodded as I strode past him for the gates. “Where are you going?” Cathlin called. I kept walking. “To find my wife.”
