“What are you doing here?” I leaned in, too, glad for the excuse to get close to her. “Filing my taxes, you?” “Filing a restraining order,” she shot back.
There was a gorgeous man on the ground behind me, literally begging to make me feel good, and I could feel the feminism leaving my body as the urge to give in to him rose.
“Sooo,” Ryan said, “I think it’s safe to say the stalking didn’t start recently.”
“I’m considering joining the priesthood.” She grinned. “Does that mean I’ll get to call you Daddy?” I nearly choked. “Isn’t it Father?” “Tomato, tomahto.”
I don’t want to clip your wings, Lo. I want to see you fly.”
Yes, he’d stalked me, and yes, he’d done other terrible things, but if he was being honest, and I believed he was, then none of it was about control. He’d done it all to protect me, to make my life easier, better, and I wasn’t in danger of falling into the same trap my mother had.
“If we weren’t already running late, I would pull this fucking car over and have you bouncing on my lap within half a second.” She shook her head. “Don’t start. I’m trying to be good.” I raked my gaze over her. “I mean, we’re already late. What’s a few more minutes?”
“That’s me, a real gentleman. Grab her hand in the streets and her hair in the sheets.”
“We more agreed that it wasn’t as casual as we first thought.” “No labels,” Taylor said. “Very cool. Very modern.”
“Listen, I know this is still new and we haven’t really dug into all our shared fantasies, but I feel like I should tell you, getting jolted with electricity? Not one of my turn-ons.”
“Does that mean I have your heart?” She nodded, cheek rubbing over my chest. “Be careful with it this time.” “I’ll guard it with my fucking life.”
“It’s because they know they haven’t won you over yet.” “I don’t think that’s it,” Nic said. “After Fred ran my guard dog off, Maud threatened me with a knife.”
