The day that I was driven to my uncle’s estate and sat down in his office, he told me that my father and mother had been killed. Someone came into our home and shot them while they slept. Shit never sat right with me because my mom was an early bird who was up before any of us. She saw me off to school earlier that morning.
My pops wasn’t even in town, so how the fuck did someone murder them in our home? I had a man that I was supposed to trust, a man that was the head of our family and I didn’t trust him. Something in my stomach told me shit was off, and when I questioned him, he couldn’t get his story straight.
It was because of her that I had been diagnosed with ADHD and OCD.
After my parents were murdered my obsessive-compulsive disorder became worse.
My uncle wanted Case House. He wanted it because it had grown bigger than he ever expected, and my father wasn’t willing to part with it. He built that shit brick by brick even when no one believed in him. It was Nash Eaton who ordered the hit on my parents, so he could take over Case House. As if he didn’t have enough. He had to take my parents away from me because of greed. His access to money and pull was so large that he didn’t need Case House. He wanted it. My father’s best friend was murdered shortly after, and I knew it was Nash. It was clear that he wanted to make sure that anybody who

Getting close to my uncle was easier than I thought. So easy that he didn’t see it when I played Russian roulette with his children and wife in front of him before turning the gun on him. I smiled, as my chest heaved up and down with blood across my face. Core was right there to hold a towel for me, so I could quickly wipe the blood from myself.
I stopped in my tracks and looked at Jeffie, one of my best friends. Shit, I would go as far as to say she was my damn heart because there was no one closer to me than her. Corleon counted, but me and Jeffie were soul mates. Not no freaky shit either.
“You thought my money was his money, and her pussy is yours, right?” I looked over at Stevie, who was confused. “Your friend offered you up… said you a virgin.” “What?” she whispered as she looked down at her hands. She was disassociating and I never gave a fuck about what someone said or felt, but I felt something when I looked at how hurt she was.
“Wonder, the minute you let another nigga touch you is the moment you gonna see why they call me Menace.”
“Well, you made it business when you went out of town and never called me.” “Don’t have your number.” I shoved my blankets into my arms as I removed myself from the couch. “You had ways to get my number, and you didn’t call to check on me once. Jeffie called me every day, and I heard you in the background and you never asked for me.” “Are you mad at me because I didn’t ask how you were, Wonder?”
“Is that something you require in this marriage?” I nodded my head yes. “I understand this is bu—” “Fair. I require you not to refer to this as a business arrangement.” “Is that not what this is?” He smiled. “Nah.” I watched as he turned to leave the room, then he paused. “I want to take you out on a date, Wonder.” “Why?” “Wear that, too… you look beautiful in it.” He winked, and then continued down the hall, leaving me standing in the middle of this room grinning like a fool.
She looked back down at her phone before looking into my eyes. I watched as she shifted in place and then told me the story of what happened with this soon to be dead nigga Tony. As she told me, I watched as she swiped away a tear that fell down her cheek. I didn’t move from my place because I was upset. Mad that someone would take advantage of her, and she was in front of me placing blame on herself.
“Okay.” “What does that mean?” I reached over and wiped her tear. “It means that I don’t have the right words right now, but I see and hear you. I hate that happened to you, and I hate that you blame yourself because you weren’t to blame, Wonder. You trusted the wrong bitch and he took advantage of you.”
I just knew this had my moms written all over it.
It always killed me how men could never put women first when we needed them. Without them, none of us would fucking exist. I was that nigga and ran shit, however, shit didn’t run without that little iPad obsessed woman. It was the reason I wanted women to work for me.
Before I could even ask what he was doing, he flipped over on the bed, snatched that man up and held him in a chokehold like a UFC fighter. Duke looked at me, and I didn’t know what to say or do. “W…what the fuck? Let me go… I can’t breathe.” “Should be thankful that you can breathe, Tony… why the fuck you hurt my baby?” Tony, because that was his name apparently, looked at me, and Duke wanting help. “Wh…what baby?” “Stevie Raye… ring a bell?” Tony was trying to remember who Menace was talking about and then I clocked the moment it registered. “That weird bitch from my old high school? I

“Steve, I ap—” Menace leaped on the bed, grabbed his damn head like a pillow and looked him in the face, snatching his glasses off. “She don’t fucking like to be called Steve.”
“I yelled at her, and she been ignoring me. Don’t come out her room, and she sends messages through Coral.”
“Wonder?” I heard his voice, but I didn’t see him. “Yes, Mitchell?” He chuckled as he came into the light from the living room. “Had fun at the mall?” I watched as he rubbed his hands together. “Won’t be fun for you when you get your credit card bill.” “I’ll survive. I missed talking to you this past week, Wonder.”
“I hate looking people in the eyes, but I need you to look at me, Wonder.” I closed the fridge and turned to look at him. He smiled at me. “I am sorry for telling you to shut the fuck up. It was wrong of me, and I don’t ever plan to speak to my future wife that way. I’ve said shut the fuck up to plenty of people and never felt anything after.”
I quickly hugged him, and he surprised me when he hugged me back.
“I don’t like hurting your feelings, Wonder… it hurts my feelings.”
“Are you nervous, Mavie?” “Yeah.” “I half expected you to lie to me.” He smirked. “You make me nervous, Wonder.” “Why?” “’Cause you do.” “I think someone has a crush on his future wife,” I teased and dusted his nose with the dry paint brush.
“I don’t know if I truly agree with this whole arrangement. Why do you care about her not talking to you if this is business?” “’Cause it’s not fucking business… I care about her weird ass.” “Well, ain’t that the pot calling the kettle black.” “You racist, Skyler?”
“You ever got your pussy ate before, Wonder?” She slowly pulled her head up and stared into my eyes. “You won’t put sauce on your chicken, but you’ll eat my pussy?” I licked my lips. “I’m a complex person, Wonder… I’m picky about food and pussy… answer the question.”
Maverick was sleeping too peacefully. Every time he moved, he made sure he remained on me, kissing my chest, before he went back into a deep sleep.
“Core, that’s mine… I ain’t losing her.”
