“I’m here to get justice. Because I have irrefutable proof that the six of you are responsible for destroying my family.”
That was his job, once upon a time. Building engines for the Union Atlantic Railroad,
Judd made sure that his engines were sturdy. Until the one time he was told to do the opposite.
He examines that first invitation, fixating on the note written across the back. It will be to your financial benefit if you come.
Herb spent his time in the manufacturing plant, the factory foreman who made sure the engines Judd designed got built, including the one pulling the very train they are on.
The invitation only details the trip to Chicago. There’s no mention of how they’re supposed to get back home.
The people who flail and rage rarely accomplish anything. But those who control their emotions even in the most fraught of situations? They get results.
“What no one on that train knew was that the engine in the locomotive had been designed to fail. Its construction was purposefully shoddy, the materials it was made of weak. The iron couldn’t contain the sustained force it took to pull a fully loaded train hundreds of miles. In short, it was a bomb. And outside Raleigh, North Carolina, it went off.”
What Anna wants is for each of them to lose the will to live—and then be forced to keep on living. Only then will she be satisfied. Revenge is fleeting. Vengeance lasts a lifetime.
