“I’m talking about a place that… that calls to you. A place that’s yours. A place that makes you smile when you think of it because it feels good, and happy, and safe. A place that anchors you when you’ve been traveling around so much you start to forget who you are and where you belong. A place where you… where you bring the people who matter.”
“People magazine named you the Sexiest Man Alive,” he said, reaching out to untangle the hoodie cords at the front of my throat. “It’s too bad they don’t have a Totes-iest Adorbs-iest contest.” The words sounded comical in his deep and steady voice. His eyes flicked up to meet mine. “You’d nail it every time.”
So I would give him what he wanted. What I wanted. And then I would let him go when we left this little sanctuary, even if it meant watching him fall for someone else one day. Because that was what you fucking did for the people you loved. You took a bullet for them, literally or figuratively.
I was bitter and resentful. I hated the king of Ventdestine. I didn’t much like Violet right now. And I resented the fuck out of the fact I had hundreds of millions of dollars… yet my money couldn’t solve this problem because my boyfriend had fucking principles.
