If you are willing to endure being offended and honestly look at it, what offends you can reveal important characteristics about you. Offense can be a form of revelation. It can shock you into seeing things you’ve overlooked about yourself.
He is peaceful, loving, gentle, and lowly, and he is also confrontational, frank, and sharp with rebuke.
When you are offended, you must ask yourself a question: Might this be God allowing me to see what is in my heart? Might this be God rescuing me from coming destruction?
Christ does not erase the biology of gender, nor immediately free the poor from economic bondage. Instead, the Gospels routinely depict encounters with Jesus so shockingly personal that they rework a person’s identity.
You may still read the Bible, listen to Christian music, collect your favorite Christian podcasts and sermon series, but are you still looking for God? Or has your faith turned into a search for permission and affirmation?
