While all us kids were planning on what we wanted to be when we grew up, Raheem wanted to be a hustler.
“Fuck you. You mad because your hood rat somewhere getting her nails done.”
I was a traditional nigga. I wanted my woman barefoot and pregnant while I brought home the bacon – beef of course.
“Ain’t my money though… she fucking with some football player she met. Damn near kissed the nigga in his mouth when I met him… finally she got somebody to take her mind off us.”
Zayne had three other wives, and they all had children and had come before me.
When he told me how she let off shots out an eagle with one arm, I knew my sister wasn’t shit to mess with.
“Aye, baby boy, let me tell you something… if the next time I see her, and I will see her again, she has a mark on her, or tells me you put your hands on her, we gonna have a problem, ight?”
Alaia ain’t even know it yet, but she was mine.
“How did you know it was me?” “I recognize my future wife’s voice anywhere… what up with you?”
“A real man could never do enough for his woman… don’t forget that, Alaia.”
“Aye chill out… you stressing my baby out.” “Your baby?” I choked out and looked at the phone.
“When I looked into your eyes, I saw how lost you were. How in pain you were, and I didn’t even know your story. I still don’t know your story, but something is telling me that when I learn it, that I’m going to want to paint the city red.”
Start your ass on all those steps you were complaining about before I carry you up next.”
“You will never open your mouth to beg a nigga for anything. I don’t like that shit, it’s beneath you and as long as I have breath in my body you won’t ever have
“Man, call him Big Mike. We don’t know a Michael,” Jaiden, Erin’s brother, joked with his cousin.
“Yes. I hope to be invited to more functions.” Capp didn’t look like he wanted to invite me anywhere but to hell.
“Dead fucking serious. I find out you giving that pussy away, I’m snatching it from between your legs. Now, what the fuck he be helping you with?”
I may have given him money that Capone had given me to help him with his re-up.
“You need to be worried about school or something… what happened to football?” “I stopped playing football when I was ten, Kendra.”
“I hate liars, Alaia. I’m easy going unless you lie to me, and that’s something we can’t ever come back from.”
I can’t remember if I was born at night, but I knew damn well I wasn’t born last night.
How did I know the back of my girl’s head? Like I said, I knew my girl better than she knew herself.
My name may be Capp, but lil’ nigga, I don’t fucking cap. When I say some shit… I mean it.”
“Get in my loose pussy hooker,” I winked, and she hesitantly climbed in.
“I’m being soft as shit.” I stood up. “Fuck all that soft shit… when it comes to family, call me a teddy bear. I show emotions because that shit is real, and every real man shows his emotions… come ‘ere.”
“I like that. Where the fuck did you get the names Chubs from? You not even fat.”
“If I pull your ass into a hug randomly, it’s because I’m making up for all the hugs that I missed.”
“Yeah, you moving out that shit… I’m gonna get us a fucking house. I don’t care if you grown, either. I’m gonna make you fucking breakfast and all that shit.”
“What. The. Fuck. Do. You. Want?” I spoke slower because I had always heard our family say her ass was slow.
“Am I giving you money or a home, Alaia? I could peel off some money right now, but that won’t solve your situation or hers,” he touched my stomach,
“If you come with me… there’s no coming back to this shit. I don’t do the back and forth shit. The minute you walk out this door with me, you putting your life in my hands, and I don’t take that lightly. I need to know everything, Alaia… don’t bullshit me.”
“You went your whole life never having someone to protect you. I’m not letting you go another fucking second never knowing what feeling protected feels like. I’m not letting you bring her into this world not knowing what being protected feels like… alright?”
“I put that on my life that I got you, Alaia.”
“Come on, Ma. I’ve slept alone for fifteen years… I’m not trying to sleep alone anymore.”
When I looked down, this nigga had a pair of fucking crocs on, and he was in here fucking choking me out like this was a normal errand on his list of errands to run.
Whatever sick thoughts you had of Alaia being yours, end that shit. That’s my baby, and when it comes to her, I’ll paint the fucking city red… feel me?”
“Hey.” “I told yo’ ‘hey’ ass to be out my shit when I slid through here.”
“I’m trying to swap spit with you for the long haul, Joy. I ain’t worried about a scar.”
“Even the good things have a struggle at first… that’s how you really know it’s good.” He kissed me on the cheek. “Alright?”
I want you forever, and I’m taking responsibility for healing the heart that I had nothing to do with breaking.”
“I want to name her Promise.” He looked at me to see how I felt about it. “Because I promise to love that little girl with everything inside of me. I promise to never let her or her mother down, and I promise that nobody will ever hurt either of you even after the breath has left my body.”
“Don’t gotta understand it but respect it. I held her and couldn’t see myself ever letting her down. I already let down one kid.”
“When you and your brother fall, you both fall harder than a tree in a rain forest.”
“I said you sexy not the diapers, diaper booty.”
Capone wasn’t going to come to me complaining because his wife had ulcers about my life.
Erin took her seatbelt off, cocked her gun back and stood up in the front. I watched as she tried to get her balance and then she started shooting at the car. His front window shattered with how many times she hit that shit.
“Get ‘em, E.” She sent two shots into the window while he was trying to get his wheel from being stuck with mine.
I held him around his neck until I felt something snap, and his eyes slowly closed. I spit in his face, and then kicked the door to his whip closed, going back to my car.
When I was on the inside, I swore when I got out that I was going to live a peaceful life. I would handle business, but all that extra shit I wouldn’t involve myself in. Now that I was out, my ass had made two enemies within the same time frame.
“You mad cause she chose up ass nigga,” Cappadonna mocked him. “Kendra ain’t chose shit… I got rid of her, not the other way around. If I told her ass to come with me now, she would be hopping out this shit to come chase behind my dick like a puppy with a treat.”
