The waiter smiled a polite little waiter’s smile. He had almost exhausted his polite little waiter repertoire and would soon be slipping into his role of a rather tight-lipped and sarcastic little waiter.

All the important changes have happened before the things they were supposed to change and it all sorts itself out in the end.

“In an infinite Universe anything can happen,” said Ford. “Even survival. Strange but true.”

“I like it when I see you eat fish,” said the man, “because in my mind you will waste away if you don’t.”
