“Look, I’m not interested in what gets you off or whatever explanation you’re about to make up on the spot now. Your secret is safe with me, just for the love of god please keep it out of my box.” And with that, she turns on her sexy red heels and stalks off. I don’t know what the hell just happened, but I am undone.
“I see 20/20, baby, and you’re a rock solid ten. Now stop down-talking my gorgeous girlfriend and take off that dress.”
I feel like I missed a few things last night, he signs, gaze sliding to London and then back to me in question. Just making my fake girlfriend French toast, I sign back. “Right,” he says quietly. Then signs, Are you sure it’s still fake?
“I don’t care who else knows as long as you do.” My heart does a funny leap thing in my chest. “I’m yours, sweetheart. In case that wasn’t obvious, I’m telling you outright. I don’t want anyone else but you.”
“But when you’re around, I don’t think I’d notice or care what was happening. I sort of lose track of everything else.”
When people don’t love us the way we want to be loved, we decide it’s our own character flaw. It’s not. It just means someone else is out there waiting for you, ready to love you in all the ways you deserve.
Brother. The word hits different tonight. They didn’t do anything different. They’ve always shown up for me, always treated me like one of them. I guess I just feel it now. We’re not blood, but we’re family. The family you choose, the ones who choose you back, are so much harder to find.
