In Fred’s view, Eva rather enjoys bossing him around, something he enjoys rather less. And she has never been on crutches, so what does she know? The café stranger? A whole different story. Why would the stranger say anything unless she was trying to help? And she established right up front that she had walked in Fred’s (orthotic) shoes. Credibility. No ulterior motives.
