THEY MAY SEE EXACTLY WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO HIDE The fact that others are always reading our faces, tone, and behavior doesn’t mean they are always reading us right. They can often tell when what we say doesn’t match the way we feel, but they can’t always tell quite how. Sometimes people simply read us wrong. You are feeling shy at cocktail hour, wishing someone would approach you. But as you linger by the door, others see you as “aloof” or “too good for the rest of us.” They are picking up something in your demeanor, but their interpretation is off.
