June 26, 1923. Back then, it was widely believed that by nature, all women were meant to be mothers—nurturing, caring, and patient.
That was certainly not the only time I’d had a visceral reaction to someone just based on a feeling. But I remember that particular experience because someone else had felt it too. That time, I couldn’t dismiss it, thinking, “It’s probably just me.” Thus do we gaslight ourselves far too often. Women in particular.
