Preston clears his throat. “We were in the middle of something, Richards.” “It’s almost like that’s the point, huh?” Nash smirks, but there’s malice behind it.
“If you danced with Mr. Rogers over there, you definitely have to dance with me.”
“I’m sorry, Vi.” “For what?” I whisper. “Everything.” A terse frown brackets his mouth. “For how things ended. All of it.”
you were never replaceable to me.”
“Trust me, you weren’t replaceable to me, either.” He still isn’t. And that’s the problem.
I just fucking missed you.”
I never lose my focus on Violet.
“You’re beautiful.” I brush a lock of hair off her forehead, and a soft smile forms on her lips, her expression shifting into one that I know well.
My body says, her. This is the one, right here. My brain says, you don’t deserve her. And something clicks. I know what’s been nagging at me lately. This is it. I’m in. I don’t know how I’m going to do it, but I’ll get her to give me another chance.
“Look me in the eye and tell me you don’t feel anything for me.”
“I can’t lie, Nash. You know I do. But I’m not even allowed to be involved with you.” She pushes to stand and begins to head back in the direction we came.
“With all due respect, Vi, fuck that. Are you going to let some arbitrary rule dictate how you live your life?” Her voice climbs. “It’s not arbitrary, it’s meant to keep things professional.” “You and I know we crossed that line the day you started.” “It’s not the same for me and you.”
“You’d get a slap on the wrist; a talking-to at most. I could be disciplined, lose my internship credit, or worse.”
You’re a hockey god. You could burn down the dining hall in broad daylight and the school would pretend it was an accident.”
“There’s nothing you can do? You can’t ask to have me moved to someone else? Or I could, if you think that would play out better for you. I don’t care if I catch some shit on my end as long as you’re okay.” That’s my number one priority at this point: protecting her. I’m more than willing to take any blowback that could fall to me.
“You’re telling me you can’t get involved with me because of this rule, even though there’s a simple solution staring you in the face? This feels like an excuse.” “Look…” Violet trails off, looking behind me, and I know something bad is coming. “I can’t upend my reputation for nothing.”
“I’m sure this rule doesn’t apply to Preston, does it?” Violet fidgets with the sleeve of her coat. “Nash. That’s not it. Preston and I are just friends.”
“What kind of friend is he when he clearly has ulterior motives? Nothing you can say will change the fact that he wants to fuck you.”
“Kind of like you?”
It’s no big secret that I’m crazy attracted to Violet, but that isn’t the point at hand. I’m not in this to get laid; I could easily do that with someone else.
“Difference is,” I say slowly, “I’m not going to pretend to be okay with being friends. Unlike Preston, I care about you too much to lie about what I want.” “What is it that you want from me, Nash? Sex?” It’s a slap in the face. I just told her I cared about her, and this is the response I get?
“Forget it, Vi. It’s fine. You want space? You got it.” I turn and walk away before saying something I’ll regret.
Violet is sitting with Preston, Julianna is with Christina, and I want to punch both Preston and myself squarely in the face. In that order.
He’s an animal; he’s going to be fine without me. And I’ll be fine without him. Even if I might kind of, sort of miss his furry paws and smelly breath.
In my defense, Biscuit is particular about the cleanliness of his water bowl and deviating from his bathroom schedule can have disastrous consequences. Plus, I needed to make sure Sav knew about his fear of the vacuum cleaner. We have to store it in the closet when it’s not being used, or he’ll sit and howl at it.
“He’s caught feelings,” Drew adds solemnly. “Four-letter feelings.”
From experience, I know the answer to that is no. Nash isn’t an exhibitionist, per se; he doesn’t get off on the idea of being seen, he just doesn’t care.
A smirk plays on his lips. “You know, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you get jealous before. It’s hot, for the record.” “I’m not jealous.” “You’re a bad liar, Vi. Always have been.”
“We can set aside the fact that I had to put up with Preston drooling all over you in this bikini. I wasn’t interested in that girl. I was playing wingman for Connor so he could hit on her friend.”
you looked upset, and I was worried about you.”
“After the way we left things between us last time we talked, I thought you might be moving on.”
“I said I was giving you space. Not that I was giving up.” “I don’t like space,” I whisper. “I fucking hate it.”
The kiss I’m waiting for never comes. His eyelids hood. “You come to me, Vi.” I already know this is more than just a kiss; this is everything. And when it comes down to it, I would risk a hundred heartbreaks to have him again.
“Fuck, I want you.”
“Need you.”
“Four bows.” “Four what?” His gaze snaps up to mine. “That’s the only thing standing between me and your naked body. Two bows on the top, two on the bottom.”
“What’s our word, Vi?”
“Vanilla.”
“Good girl.”
“And if your mouth is full?” “Tap ...

“Agreed.”
“When do you get to come, Violet?” “When you say so.” “That’s right.”
“You still like throwing me around.” “You still like it when I throw you around.”
“I forgot you were big enough to crush me.” His expression softens. “I won’t.”
“I’m a mess over you,” he murmurs. “You don’t even seem to realize it.”
“You don’t need to worry about other girls, Vi. I want you so bad I can’t fucking see straight.” “You’ve got me now.” In truth, he’s had me all along. “Yeah.” He grins, lowering his mouth to mine. “I do.”
“Then give me your pussy, Violet.”
He isn’t doing this because he thinks he should. This is a man devouring me because he gets off on getting me off—and it shows.
“Your pussy tastes even better than I remembered, especially when you come. You should sit on my face next time, though. I miss that view.”
