The return of Blizzard’s founder seemed to be a broadly positive development for the company as it grappled with identity questions and increasing pressure from Activision, but Adham’s colleagues began to suspect that he was in the wrong role. This sort of middle management position was an awkward fit; instead, he should be either higher (in the C-suite) or lower (the director of a game). Seeing how many Blizzard employees didn’t even recognize his name proved to be an uncomfortable new reality for Adham. In many ways, Blizzard had moved on without him.
