“I think it’s safe to say I’m in more danger than you are.” Yes, beautiful, you are, but not the kind that will make the evening news. More like the kind you’ll invite your girlfriends over to discuss and giggle about over wine.
I was unsure why I wanted to give Noel Christmas when Christmas was one of my least favorite holidays. Somehow, knowing she enjoyed it made me open to enjoying it with her.
However, the thought of making this woman smile was my new motivation.
Maybe Simone was right. Perhaps the universe was doing its best to offer me a very Merry Christmas after all.
He tugged me into his side as we walked through the garage toward my car. It was beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.
“I need to look her up. If you’re sharing her apartment and sleeping on the sofa, she must be something. You like her, don’t you?”
His hand latched onto my wrist, and when I lowered my eyes, his were hooded and demanding.
“I thought we weren’t sitting in other men’s laps,” she teased. “I’m not; you are, but only mine.”
“Your day’s coming, Noel. Just you wait. You’re a sweetheart. The right man will realize it and marry you in the blink of an eye.” His words had me internally frowning at the idea of there being a right man for her if that man wasn’t me.
that man is giving you the ‘cum all ye faithful’ eyes, you better jingle his bells properly.” I burst out laughing and rolled my eyes. “You need therapy.”
“Perfection is overrated. I prefer my women to be real. You could say that I’m a man who likes to expect the unexpected.”
“That’s a very pretty way of saying failure.” “You only fail if you don’t try. You’re trying, Noel.”
“You might have convinced me that Christmas isn’t so bad after all.”
The problem was, I had no idea if she was even good at her job . . . nor did I care. I had to help. I was going to help because there was something about Noel’s smile that ignited a fierce motivation for me to ensure it was always there.
“I said the two of you were a lot alike. You and her ex, but I meant in appearance. I think you’re a much better fit than he ever was.”
“I’m not your ex. I don’t need to buy expensive things to make up for not seeing you how you deserve to be seen.
Me: I’m already in over my head. Simone: Then it’s too late to worry about it. Get the dick, friend.
My . . . Noel wasn’t mine . . . But she could be .
