Life isn’t fair. No one is guaranteed a happily ever after. But there’s solace in knowing that there’s a person in this world who sees me and knows me. Levi knows my darkest moments and witnessed my lowest lows, and despite it all, he stuck by me. I’ll do the same for him. Always.
The way we fit together is ingrained, permanent. He’s a part of me. He’s the best of me.
“She’s mine,” I repeat, my voice thick and solemn this time. “And she knows it. She might not be ready to admit it, but she fucking knows it.” His glare holds more of a challenge than I expected. Softer, I add, “It was only ever her, Leev.”
“She’s the only woman I’ve ever been with. The only woman I ever intend to be with,” I add, my damn heart clenching like it does every time I think about her. “It was only ever her.”
“I love watching you run,” he repeats, his tone low, “because I get to fantasize about what it would be like to catch you.”
“And what would you do if you caught me?” My tone is sweet, but I scrape my nails against the short hairs at his nape. There’s no masking my eagerness as I inch closer to his mouth. He hums, then ghosts his lips along my jaw. “I’d hold on tight and keep you forever.”
Greedy makes me feel like I’m easy to love.
I can’t wait to be with you this weekend. And I really can’t wait to be together next year.
“Young lady. Perhaps it’s not my place,” the Pastor starts, as if that justifies what’ll come out of his mouth next, “but what sort of extracurriculars are you involved in that require a regular designated driver on Sunday mornings?” I offer my most saccharine smile. “Smut brunch, sir. It’s a spicy romance book club. Bottomless mimosas and romance novels are necessities.” I giggle. “They’re a match made in heaven.” I place extra emphasis on the last word.
“It’s not just cute. It’s educational. You know you love it when I get drunk at brunch, then come home ready to jump your bones so we can try all the kinky things I’ve been reading about.”
“Life has a rhythm,” he whispers. “Everything happens for a reason, even if we don’t know what the reason is right away.”
“No wrong moves, Temi. You’re my first and my last. I never knew what I was waiting for, but now I know it was you.”
“This is the most spectacular moment of my life,” he murmurs, the words hushed and reverent. “I don’t want to rush it. I don’t ever want to forget our first time.”
I offer him a tight-lipped smile, hoping like hell he can’t read me like an open book. Like an open, smutty, deliciously spicy book.
I love a man who understands and fully embraces consent. But yes means yes.
“Eyes on me, Daisy. I want to watch my girlfriend’s face when I make her come for the first time.”
I was going to love him forever, only forever isn’t an option anymore.
