“All vampires living within one hundred miles of a populated city must be licensed,” Watson said. “The grace period ends tomorrow.” “And if they’re not?” “Why, they’ll be staked, of course.
He couldn’t even think about cursing another human to this endless macabre lifestyle.
If I’d known what a bore you would be, I never would have turned you.” Ethan’s jaw ticked. “If I’d known what a drunk you were, I never would have let you.”
“You promised to end my suffering.” Now, he’d have to live with the pain for all eternity. “And I did.”
He didn’t want to die then any more than he wanted to now. He’d only wanted the pain to stop.
If he were honest with himself, he’d admit the ache had subsided over the years. But the pain was all he had left of the woman he’d loved, and he wasn’t ready to let her go.
Jane could very well be his Vanessa reincarnated.
“Your mark. She is sensing you.” This was fate. She was meant to be his, so why wouldn’t she?
“Ethan, my dear son, you did not simply mark her as a meal. That’s a mating mark.”
He’d only wanted to keep anyone else from having her. To mark her as his own. Oh, fuck.
“I’ll be a callous prick like you any day now.” “That’s my boy.”
“She’s not the sharpest stake in the pile, is she?” Ethan smiled, unable to take his gaze off her. “She’s perfect.”
A burning lump of hot coal lodged in Ethan’s throat as he gazed at his long-lost love, slipping away from him again. “How do I turn her?”
I can’t lose her again.” “And damning her to darkness is the perfect way to show the woman you love that you care.
“Rule number one: obey your sire. Your life is in his hands until you’re trained.” “Obey my what?” Gripping the edge of the mattress, she chose her words carefully. “Back up a minute, Christian Grey. I don’t know what kind of kink you’re into, but Jane Anderson obeys no one. Got it?”
“Hundreds of years ago, after an unfortunate event involving an entire choir, the church smote our kind. We can’t speak the name of a certain religious icon or his son without…” He gestured toward her. “Without that happening.”
She’d let him teach her how to glamour and do all the fun vampire shit, but there was no way in hell she’d be drinking blood.
Beautiful on the outside, with sweet blood, but the positive traits ended there.
“If you didn’t act like such a brooding, teenage-romance vampire, I wouldn’t.” “If you didn’t act like such a stubborn, spoiled brat, neither would I.”
It’s just my luck to get turned into a vampire by an Edward Cullen wannabe who has Captain Jack Sparrow as his mentor.”
“You’re going to take care of her like I took care of you. Train her. Make her the best vampire you can, then…and only then…you will set her free.”
“Nobody claims Jane Anderson. I’m my own person, so you’d best remove that mark before you have to remove my boot from your ass.”
Jane is quite the firecracker. I think she’s going to be good for you.”
You might be as sullen as a teenage guitar player, but you’re a good man.”
She was gorgeous, immortal, and the only things that could kill her were stakes to the heart, beheading, and sunlight, which, to be honest, already killed a lot of people anyway. Skin cancer’s a bitch.
She shouldn’t have been attracted to him. He had all the personality of a wet tissue,
Nobody fights like Gaston.” Jane giggled. “What about cheap shots? I bet nobody takes those like Gaston either.” “He does what he has to do.” “Is he good at expectorating? Especially good?” She was cracking herself up.
She was about to protest that Jane Anderson stayed behind no man,
“Holy shit, Edward. You didn’t tell me we were coming to meet the Volturi.”
Is this a patriarchy? Because I’m all about busting glass ceilings.”
The fact that not only did he not want her, but he didn’t even want her to be a vampire, was like a knife—no, like a stake—to her heart.
“Go ahead and stake me. You heard the man; I’m a mistake. He doesn’t want me.”
“I’d be dead now if it weren’t for him.” “Actually, you kinda are.”
And no one makes Jane Anderson do anything she doesn’t want to do.”
“Your stubbornness is killing you and making me miserable in the process.” “I can’t die, and you’re already miserable.”
Neglect of your offspring is punishable by stake.”
“Please tell me you’re kidding. A vampire who faints at the sight of blood?” “I wish I were.”
How could he accept such an extravagant gift when all he’d done for her was damn her to darkness?
I damned you.” “You saved my life.” “By turning you into a monster.”
Jane Anderson does not belong in a dusty old attic.”
Leave it to Jane to turn his pity party around and defuse all his arguments by making it about her.
“This whole being dead to the world thing is scary alone. I’ve never done it without you.”
“Sometimes, the things we want aren’t the same as what we need. I’m glad you’re you, Jane Anderson. You are exactly what I need.”
“Did you just name my dick Vlad?” “It’s fitting. If the death sleep hadn’t pulled me under, I might have let him impale me.”
“You underestimate the power and temperament of the Council.” “You underestimate the power and temperament of Jane Anderson.
Jane still enjoyed a good thunderstorm, because it reminded her of simpler times. Of love and laughter. Something she’d never get from Ethan Devereaux.
“I’m a master of words, Ethan, and they go a long way. But real emotional connections between people happen because of actions. You can’t change the past, but you can decide, right now, to change your future.”
“I love you, Ethan Devereaux, but don’t you ever tell me what I can’t do.”
