And then,” another shiver passed over me, “I looked down at my seat and I saw it. A sweaty line of booty juice!”
“Yeah, I’m just going to conjure me up a boyfriend.”
There’s this fantasy book I read where the main character said this spell and boom, she had the perfect boyfriend.”
I had to get used to this new life as the last single girl in the group.
“You called?” the deep voice spoke from the corner where the apparent intruder stood.
“Make me better, demon bae. You are a demon, right? I read demons come with interesting… tools.”
“I don’t know how many times you’re going to make me say this, but you are not dreaming.”
“What the hell?” I muttered, and as the words crossed my lips, a chill moved across my spine. “Alright, time to get the hell out of here!”
I made it exactly one and a half steps before my eyes found the source of the sudden concern. Standing at the edge of the path was an unmistakable beast, a demon.
He held the massive body of the treelike demon over his head like a wrestler in a death match.
Threat of demon attacks or not, a girl had to eat.
“What are you eating?” The deep voice scared me so much, the fork went flying out of my hand.
Demon boy sat in the chair across from me, crab macaroni on his face.
“You’re no longer questioning my existence?”
“I can’t pop up here every time you’re in danger,” he scolded me. “Be more careful.”
“I think you’re smart enough to know it’s not as simple as telling me to go away.”
“That ritual ties us together.” He huffed, clearly annoyed he had to explain himself.
“It means that smelly demon won’t be the last to come after you. They know about you, and they think you’re a weak point for me.”
“Demons have energy signatures, and mine is now intertwined with yours.”
“My name is Metice.”
“And I have to keep coming here for you until I figure out how to sever this infuriating link between us.”
“So, tell me, Rayna, why are you aroused?”
“I am not!”
“There’s no need to be embarrassed or lie about it. I can smell it, your arousal.”
“Your pulse quickens, your pussy is wet, and I smell it. Your body wants me, Rayna.”
“I don’t know what drugs they have in hell, but you need to ease up off them.”
My eyes almost fell out of my head. Those two little old ladies with their blue-grey hair and large eyes stood at the top of the steps, mouths wide and displaying sharp teeth as they cackled.
“Dammit,” I cursed at myself as I darted back up the steps. “What the hell is his name?”
He said he could feel me, so why hadn’t he felt any of this?
“Somewhere where you will be safe, and I don’t have to keep dropping everything to come save you from yourself,” he answered.
“You’re not going back to your house. It isn’t safe.” He did that creepy reappearance thing and was suddenly in front of me. “I’m taking you home with me.”
“I told you exactly what I would do if you kept getting into trouble. I’m many things, but I’m not a liar.
“They can probably tell I’m here now, sense my presence. Can they smell me? Oh shit, what if they heard my scream?”
Before I could decide if I wanted to test the limits, he turned back around and handed me a pen and paper.
“It’s for you to make a list of whatever you need from your place. I’ll go retrieve whatever you ask for.” He pushed the items at me again. “I’m trying to be accommodating.”
“Infuriating,” he muttered before the energy in the room tensed with power, and then, Metice disappeared from sight.
“Damn asshole! Acting like I asked to be here.”
How was this my life? “Whoever is writing my story has a funny sense of humor.”
“Please stop trying to compare my world to the various lores you humans have created. This isn’t the hell you think it is.
Do whatever you need to keep you from annoying me while we figure this out.”
Do you think I could live here forever with you at my beck and call?”
“If you want to eat, you’ll politely ask me to supply you with a meal like a good girl.”
Had I read that line in a book, I would have been swooning, but in reality, it made me want to pop him in his thick forehead.
“Are you going to be a good girl, Rayna?”
Okay, so maybe that dominance thing wasn’t just hot in the books. Maybe, in real life, it had a little weight to it.
Soft candlelight lit the space, and the smell of lavender filled the air. He’d taken time to create this for me. I had no words.
I felt myself softening to him.
