“It’s fine.” Alice smiled, worried about his feelings even though he hadn’t worried about hers.
Being nice was nice. Being nasty got shit done.
“You speak wicked blasphemy,” hissed Emer. “Fluently,” said Key. “Follow me, my lady.”
being a teenage virgin wouldn’t last, not for Lia or anyone else. Somehow Octavian considered Rae stained but not himself, filth only sticking to her, but men weren’t rubber and women weren’t glue. If worth had an expiry date, it wasn’t worth much.
Brick at his back and shadows across his eyes, Key looked like an illustration of a crime in process.

“You will fall a long, long way. The dead are waiting for you, and a man more terrifying than the dead.” Octavian trembled. Before all the king’s ministers, the treacherous Beauty Dipped In Blood lunged. “When you finish falling,” hissed Rae. “Tell him I sent you.”
But Marius could take a leap of faith. He said, “Come home with me.”
On the roof Eric had explained, I love watching how you live. The Cobra always did know how to find the right words. “I’m your number one fan,” said Marius.
In one lethal iron claw, he held another jewel. Small as a teardrop, red as blood. Her ruby earring.
“I love you as a knife loves a throat,” he murmured as the dead overwhelmed her. “I crawled out of hell to fall at your feet.”
