When love is forced, it never works out. I learned that the hard way. I move closer.
He’s too gentle and too handsome. He’s the type of man you wish you could find—the kind that once you have him, you never let him go.
The growl in his voice—and the way he chews on the corner of his lip before he gives me a wide, perfect smile paired with a smoldering gaze—has me ready to internally combust with just one damn look.
“You’re blushing,” he murmurs. “Didn’t realize that’s all it would take.”
He slips out from under the blankets and puts on a pair of black-framed glasses that complement his strong jawline. Nerdy but confident men are my weakness. He moves toward me, muscles cascading down his hard body as his joggers ride low on his hips. I can’t find my words.
“Claire really isn’t my girlfriend. She’s more like my roommate at this point.” “Are you sleeping in the same bed?” Mom asks. “Ma! That’s inappropriate,” I tell her. “Shame on you.” Dad lets out a ho-ho-ho, and we all fall into a fit of laughter.
I don’t like how she’s so hard on herself. When she has the slightest mishap, she becomes her own worst enemy. If she learns anything while she’s here, I want her to know it’s okay to be human, to fuck up every once in a while.
“I’ve come to terms with my loneliness and accepted that it’s a byproduct of living in a small town. It’s the relationship card I’ve been dealt. But that doesn’t mean I won’t cherish the fuck out of every moment you’re here. Time is precious, and right now, there is no other person I’d rather be with than you, Claire.
“I’m glad you’re havin’ a good time.” “Are you?” I ask, hoping this isn’t boring. “The best, but that’s always the case when you’re around. You’re happiness, Claire.”
If I could look up spoilers on my life, I would do it in a heartbeat.
