My eyes snapped to Eli’s. His handsome face was full of intensity and frustration. The chivalrous gaze almost concealed the lust in his eyes when they took in my nearly naked body kneeling before Mendax.
Watch how they hunger for you. We are infatuated with you.
“You are everything to me, Caly,” Mendax said through a shortened breath, his hand pulling at my hair. “I’m going to be rougher with you, pet. Will you be a good girl and take it?”
“You will never be able to deter me from loving her. Without killing the both of us, you will never ever be able to tear us apart from one another. Our tie is as unbreakable as my love for her.”
I could feel the tingle and pulse of every hair on my head as he bent to tower over me, where I kneeled on Eli. Mendax’s sky-blue eyes and evil mouth were only a few inches above mine. He lowered his bottom lip, and cold mead poured from his mouth into mine.
I pulled my two fingers from inside myself and lifted them to Eli’s handsome mouth, pressing them inside. His eyes flickered closed and his hips bucked ever so slightly. He grabbed my wrist, keeping it in place while the other went around the small of my back and pulled me against him. He swirled his hot tongue around my fingers with a soft groan. Eli’s face was now only a breath away from my own.
“I will return for you,” he whispered. “From the deepest corner of Tartarus, I would return for you.”
“I’ll ki—” But it was all Aurelius got out the second his mouth was free before Mendax cut him off by roughly grasping Eli’s jaw, wrenching it open, and smearing his cum-soaked hand aggressively onto Eli’s face, shoving him backward with the force. “Have a taste of that too, sunshine. Taste me all over her now? That’s the only way it’ll ever be from now on, so fuck off.”
“Marry me. Not because my mother ordered it and not because I’m begging or because it will make you a queen. Marry me because you love me as much as I love you.”
“But let it be known to all that I loved Mendax with every beat of my mangled heart. He may have been the villain to most of you in this room, but he loved me in ways I couldn’t comprehend—in ways I didn’t know a person was capable of loving—even if it was shown in a way most wouldn’t recognize. No doubt should ever enter the mind of anyone here how much I reciprocated that love. Even if I was unable to show it.”
“I will never be sorry I’m the man that gets to treasure you. You were always going to be the last battle between Mendax and I, and I would have done everything in my power to kill him. I suppose at least this way, you will not hate me for being the one who took him from you. I will spend every day with you, my best friend as well as my soul mate.”
“I’m sorry for everything I did wrong, Calypso.” Tears streaked his lightly stubbled jaw. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you more in the human realm. I’ll never forgive myself for it. In every part of my soul, I am filled with remorse that I played a part in your sadness. I despise myself for being so selfish in wanting you with me, that I allowed her to send you to Unseelie in the first place.”
“In every way, you have proven yourself to be my hero and friend,” I said, looking between Eli and Walter. “I have already lost someone and their love by not embracing my own feelings. I may never get over the love I had for Mendax, but I will never make the mistake of not allowing myself to feel again. I love you, Eli.”
“Mendax is rolling over in his grave with a stiff dick somewhere right now,”
“Make a handsome fae flop on the dirt?” I said with a grimace. “You hear that?” Eli groaned and swore. “Handsome.”
There in front of me stood the man of my dreams and nightmares. How many times could one person play dead?
“I’ve told you from the beginning, there was nothing that would stop me from returning to you,” Mendax answered.
Walter gave me a solemn nod of encouragement. He was the only one that knew the truth. I looked into Eli’s kind eyes. It would probably be the last time they ever looked at me like that. “I’m so sorry,” I whispered to him. His brows wrinkled. “Don’t be sorry. You’ve got this,” he encouraged.
Kaohs, please let him into Tartarus and give him plenty of women and trouble, I thought with a smile.
I thought the goddess was devious and enrapturing before, but now? Now I was infatuated beyond anything the realms have ever seen. How was it possible to be so completely bewitched by a human? I called her pet, but it was I who followed behind at her heels. I was the one with the leash tied to her short, immortal life.
At the same moment, Mendax moved his free hand up and over the side of my neck, leaning down to whisper in my ear. “Go on, Cal. Take it.” His deep voice poured through my brain like hot soup. “Do it for me.” Eli’s thumb grazed my bottom lip. “Let me know that you still love me.” My body shivered and thrummed, filled with a new energy.
