What a fortune I did possess to have so many valiant knights riding into battle for mere little me.
But most of all, it stirred up that love I felt for him so deeply already, more than any song could ever conjure. It was unfettered and as true as any natural law in this world. He was my songful salmon and I his tuneless tuna. There was no other creature for me, not a single soul who came close.
“Don’t go,” I demanded. “You’ve made it so far in this war, you can’t go now. Everyone loves you so fucking much.”
He blinked groggily, focusing on me with a frown. “Moon…friend?” he rasped.
They hadn’t gotten enough time together yet. None of us had. But there was no more left to claim.
“I think that was my stalker,” he said mildly like that wasn’t disturbing as fuck.
To make something so valuable that it would not only protect him in battle but strengthen him too. And what better way than to make his magic practically unending the way mine and Darcy’s was whenever we wielded flames?
I did it for you because I won’t ever risk you again. You own my heart, Darius.”
“Not like this, but in the purest and most vital way any one person can. And I will follow you into death if that’s what our fate demands. But I don’t plan on letting death have us that easily, I plan on living with you and loving you this fiercely through the grey hair and wrinkles and rocking chairs surrounded by a hundred great grandbabies and every glorious moment between now and then. So this is a command from your queen, Darius Vega. Don’t die out on that battlefield. Bring me your father’s head and let’s start a new life by dancing on his funeral pyre.”
“This is it then,” Darius said. “Our final night in paradise.” “We found real happiness here for a while, didn’t we?” I mused and my friend nodded.
I want us to choose each other regardless of what the sky might think of it.
Because if we hadn’t been mated, I would still love you like this, like the world begins and ends with you.
So Darcy Vega, sovereign of my heart, will you defy all fates that deal our deaths and promise to marry me?”
“I’ll fight for us out there with every drop of strength I possess, Blue.”
“Once upon a time, I was a girl afraid to be burned by the world, now I’m a queen who rules the fire. I will win this war for you, Lance, and I swear to the stars I will meet you at the altar.”
“We are the howling wind!” Darcy cried and the army echoed those words. “We are the thundering earth!”
Long live the True Queens. Forever may they reign. In this world or the next.
“You’d never kill me, Gabe,” he said with such certainty it was like he had better foresight than me.
“Arcturus?” Clydinius spoke, a touch of curiosity to his voice. “Of all the stars…to find you have fallen, it is strange tidings indeed.”
I couldn’t help but feel my chest swell as the strength of her emotions hit me too. Pride, honour, valour, bravery. This beautiful creature wasn’t in the least bit afraid, even though she fought at the thickest of the fight, even though she knew as well as all of us that this was the most likely place to die.
My father had taught me this trick, the dark magic so potent he had warned me never to use it unless necessary. But me standing in the middle of a battlefield with death calling my name probably counted as necessary.
“I have been ordered to join the battle,” Tharix replied. “I’m just trying to decide which side to fight on.”
“Do you know, just this morning, I was thinking how much better he would look without a head. It will match with his missing hand.”
“From mountain tops to sandy dunes, my love will live for you everywhere,”
“You died?” I breathed, the grief hitting me like a stab to the chest, but Washer just shrugged. “I can’t think of anything I’d have rather given my life for.”
“I made a vow to end you for the death of my beloved friend, Angelica,” I told her. “And I am yet to ever break my word.”
Time seemed suspended within the cloud of dust and I moved myself to sit upright on my brother’s back, amused to find myself riding a Dragon of all things at the end of this day of chaos.
“You are…everything, you know that?”
“Death doesn’t seem so terrifying with you by my side,” I told him.
“Not now that I know we will face it together,” he agreed roughly. “But let’s leave that adventure for another day, shall we?”
I looked to my sister with an utterly liberated smile on my face which she returned just as brightly, and I knew that though nothing would ever be the same for us as it had once been, we would forever be at home in Solaria.
“Rise, Geraldine Gundellifus Gabolia Gundestria Grus, Fate Weaver, protector of the True Queens and sacred guider of the kingdom,”
“There are no words in this universe that can aptly capture your beauty in this moment.”
“Wow,” Darcy said, looking from the boys, to her sister, to me. “You really don’t do anything by halves, do you Darius?”
was a wily creature, me.
“That you’re horny for the horn,”
“You can whip me like a bad pony if you like, or ride me like a good one. I’ll be your Pegasus Sub, and you can be my Dom.
“Be a part of what?!” he snarled, his face kinda red and maybe that was what he liked, being all angry when he fucked me like a naughty Pegasus who’d eaten all the carrots.
“Then neigh for me like a good pony and do exactly what I tell you.”
