“But the emperor is your grandfather.” Geraldine looked from my sisters to me, and I realised I was very much included in that statement. “Perhaps he only awaits the call of his lineage to thrust the might of his army into your command.”
“You are quite the romantic crustacean when you wish to be, aren’t you?”
Carson Alvion: This is a fucking lie constructed by the False King to claim those gold bullions and the artefacts in that museum. He took out the other buildings and murdered innocents to make you hate the Questian Rabbits. If you swallow this bullshit, you’ll get what’s coming to you in a world of pain that I will personally deliver to your door. I’m noting down every name of every fucker who supports this post.
“We need to go now. Seth motherfucking Capella has him.”
I was far unlike the other Dragons in many ways, allowing those I deemed worthy to ride me when the occasion called for it. And that always included my winged friend Falco.
My faith in Wolves ran deep, and I had seen enough of his actions to trust him.
“Awoo.” Luca prodded me. “Do awoo. Do awoo.” “Not right now, buddy,” I breathed. “Awoo later.” “Awoo now.” “Awoo,” I whisper-howled.
“Well if it isn’t my dear, traitorous, murdering father,”
“Did you miss me?”
“Great.” She pursed her lips. “So long as Washer didn’t get a whiff of it too.” “I did just now, queenie love!” Washer stepped out of the gate in leather pants and a leopard print shirt that had way too many buttons open. “What a riveting tale, you will share it with me soon, won’t you?
You were the reason I resisted him. You, Xavier. Because I love you. You’re my fucking brother, there isn’t a universe I’d want to exist in without you.”
“I will fight this war in the name of the Vegas. All hail the True Queens!” “Damn straight,” Max said. “All hail those fiery fucking hellions.”
“Did you know I was gonna do that today?” I asked. “Did you see me fucking this up?” “No, Leon. If I had, I would have stopped it. You are so very fucking hard to predict,” he sighed.
“Are we quite done being two sentimental seals on the shores of our great conquest?”
“Nothing,” Tharix decided. “If choices make the man then perhaps I will see what I become by making no choices at all.” “That’s impossible,” Xavier demanded. “Even inaction causes a reaction. There is no anything without choice.”
“Let’s hope we aren’t remembered as the queens who unleashed a plague of monsters onto their own kingdom,”
“Better that than the queens who were killed by said plague of monsters,”
“By order of the great King Lionel, I-” “King Lionel can get fucked!” I shouted, cutting him off. “Right up the ass with a pinecone,” Darcy agreed
“You mean, did we track down the star Lionel was keeping in a pit in his castle and free it so it could do that sparkly power release thing?” Darcy asked sweetly. “Yeah, that,” Darius said intently. “Well?” Tiberius boomed. “Did you really manage it?” “Yup,” they said at the same time, sharing a grin.
Gabriel Nox: I saw this coming and could have stopped it #forthepubes #pubemeonce #revengeofthebush
My mate had witnessed two Donum Magicaes now when most Fae went their whole lifetime without ever seeing one. Was I jealous? Maybe.
Gabriel was smiling happily, and Leon looked hyper as shit, but that didn’t necessarily mean he’d been drinking. I swear the guy ran on liquid sunshine, peppy at all hours of the day.
“Calm your clam, Maxy boy. No one waters my garden except your sprightly sea cucumber, but alas, Fae do dream. We cannot blame Xavier for his ganderings.”
“I can’t help when my Charisma is Charismaring, Gabe. I’m seduction in Fae form.”
She engraved the words ‘blue means you’ on the inside of the metal then handed it back to me with a sniff.
“If that’s true then I hope you know I will love and protect her like no other man might hope to.”
“No one’s worthy of her, but if anyone deserves her, it’s you Lance Orion.”
I’d left the ring in Gabriel’s care, sure if I’d given it to Darius I might have to prise it from his fingers the next time I asked for it.
If we were going down then I planned to scorch this world with my name and force it to remember me as I was, fighting for what was right and giving everything in my resistance of that tyrant’s brutal reign. I would be myself entirely. I wouldn’t be forced to sway at the whims of others.
Some part of me would forever be the little boy who used to crawl into her arms and make forts beneath her desk when her work made it hard for her to carve out all the hours we needed for our games.
Our love was far more than position or power. Our bond was one which could only ever be shared between mother and son, and whatever else we might be, we were that first.
“I challenged my mother and claimed her place,” I told him. “And if my queens try to tell me no on this then I think I’ll just have to go ahead and commit treason. You are in my head morning, noon and night, your presence invigorates me and your absence leaves me aching. I dream of you whenever I sleep and burn for you whenever you are near. I can’t hide it anymore. I won’t hide it anymore. I want you to be mine, Seth, I fucking need you to be mine.”
I offered him the rose quartz which had been carved into the shape of a crescent moon and hung from a chain of silver,
“I love you, Seth Capella, even more than the moon loves the sky.”
“His face was not stamped on the sex toy,” Caleb growled just as Seth said, “We only used the Dragon lube and butt plug anyway!”
“Who came to help you?” Seth asked, peeling Caleb’s fingers from his mouth. “Our parents,” Tory supplied, breaking down into her own fit of laughter and shock mixed with my amusement as Caleb’s face went pale with horror.
“Oh no – that moment is branded into my fucking mind for all of time, I assure you. What was it Seth said? Oh yeah – ‘how vanilla are you feeling, Altair?’”
“This…I…I’m never having sex again,” he hissed just as Seth shattered the silencing bubble and pointed an accusatory finger at Darius.
“No way you just took that lying down,” he said. “You mean like Caleb did?” Tory asked and I clutched my sides as I failed to even draw breath from how hard I was laughing.
“Well I haven’t died yet,” I said brightly. “The word ‘yet’ is delightfully comforting, Blue,” he drawled.
A loud knock sounded at the door, and I called out for whoever it was to come in before my dude could get much more irritable about being my dude.
“I look like I spent the night crawling backwards through a thorn bush, but thank you for the compliment, Geraldine. You look stunning as always. Is that a new dress?”
“I knew I didn’t just marry you because you were dying,” I groaned longingly. “No,” he agreed. “It was because I was dying and I have a big cock.”
I gave her a look which said ‘I can’t just bow down to this shit’ and she arched a brow which said ‘hell no you can’t’ before speaking for the whole room to hear.
“It was like a work around on the ‘keeping them apart’ bullshit - you know about this.” “I do not know about this,” Seth growled. “I do not know about this at all.”
“Nice. So we have four baby lizards, clean shadows and the friendlier Nymphs considering their options, an army of rightly pissed off and motivated Fae, the two most powerful Fae in the kingdom plus seven of the second most powerful and you, Geraldine, who is arguably an army all on your own. We have a Shadow Beast, the Nox plant, the greatest Seer of our time, and a powerful glacia diamond.
“Your thirst for knowledge is as deep as mine,” I mused. “I don’t know as much as I’d like to know. And much of what I’ve learned is in books. Someday, perhaps we’ll travel to new places and learn about them together.”
“Do you really think I lied to you about Arcturus? Do you really doubt me after everything?” she demanded. “After I’ve clawed my way back to you time and again. After we’ve fought against all odds to be together, and chosen to become star bound mates? You think I’d taint us with a lie?”
“Those are-” I began but she cut me off. “Yeah, yeah. But we need them so you’ll have to just console yourself with the million other gold coins in that fancy pirate chest at the foot of your bed,” she said, waving me off.
No one could take Geraldine Grus away from us. She was the beating heart of our group, and I’d go to hell and back to bring her home.
