Another model, most potent of all, was La Marseillaise, the indispensable song of the French Revolution that set feet marching to overthrow the ancien régime and attached itself to the revolutionary spirit everywhere. (That is why, after he crowned himself emperor, Napoleon banned the Marseillaise. Revolutions were to end with him.)
