“Well, you’re not exactly scoring wisdom points tonight, so I can feel safe for another twenty-four hours at least.”
“I know your friend believed it,” he adds. “But I didn’t believe a word of it.” I turn to look at him. He knows me as well as I know him, it seems. “That’s because not a word of it was true.”
Because I am sure of only one thing: Sarai can never go home.
“Just being in the same room with me—just knowing me, Sarai, is a death sentence every day.
Sarai, you never know who might betray you until it’s too late.”
“Always trust your instincts.”
Thrust into each other’s lives by a twist of fate and held there by our rare similarities and our need to be together. We are one in the same.
